Freight favorite Laurie Lewis takes the stage for an intimate show accompanied by the acclaimed guitarist, Nina Gerber, spotlighting gems from her repertoire of original songs and classics. One of the most diversely talented artists in traditional music, Laurie's songwriting, fiddling, and crystal clear singing have brought her national recognition, a Grammy, and two International Bluegrass Music Association Awards for Female Vocalist of the Year. A Berkeley native, Laurie has, through her many band and solo outings, become a key figure in bluegrass, traditional, and folk music circles.
Last year she released the album Birdsong, a benefit CD for the Audubon Canyon Ranch, and published a collection of two decades' worth of memorable songs in Earth and Sky: the Laurie Lewis Songbook (Confluence Press). With her precise, smoky playing, Sebastopol native Nina has spent the past two decades providing subtly brilliant guitar accompaniment to notable singer-songwriters from Kate Wolf to Nanci Griffith. Along the way, Nina has built herself a sterling reputation for her ability to deepen a song with beautiful, sensitive playing that never distracts from the fundamental feeling of the composition. Last year Nina released her first solo album, Not Before Noon. |
