mariachi coloratura vocalist

Based in Oakland, Juanita Ulloa is a rising star of Mexican and Latin American music, a pioneering composer with soaring vocals, an amazing range and falsetto, and creator of the currently evolving mariachi coloratura vocal style. Raised in Mexico, Panama, and Spain, Juanita is a prize-winning former opera singer, now pioneering her music in concert as a solo singer accompanied by anything from a single guitar to symphony orchestras. At the Freight, Juanita will perform with her hot six-member Picante Ensemble in Mexico's mariachi, or ranchera style, combining dynamic trumpet and strings, to celebrate the release of her new album, Mujeres & Mariachi, which has just been nominated for Best New Artist, Best Ranchera Album, and Best New Song/Album in this year's Latin Grammy Awards. Juanita has also recorded a series of bilingual childrens' CDs, including an album of lullabies, Canta Conmigo volume III: Mariposa, which received a Latin Grammy nomination in the children's category. The show will also feature the trio Sabrosito.
