Dr. Banjo's traditionally-flavored Rx

Pete Wernick, the former Hot Rize member known as "Dr. Banjo" for his picking expertise, and his singer-guitarist wife Joan present one of the West's most engaging country duets. Joan's clear, soulful singing and Pete's masterful playing bring life to a diverse repertoire including traditional bluegrass, vocal duets, and blazing instrumentals. In the early '70s the pair played with the groundbreaking bluegrass band Country Cooking in Ithaca, New York, before relocating to Colorado. Pete is famed for his unique blend of picking finesse, showmanship and humor. He has been nominated for Banjo Player of the Year in national polls and is also known for his best-selling instruction books, videos and workshops, not to mention the 12 years he spent touring full-time with the popular Hot Rize band, named Entertainer of the Year in 1990 by the International Bluegrass Music Association. Joan has sung with various groups in Colorado; her natural sparkle and the couple's repartee adds a special dimension to their performances. In early 2000, Pete and Joan released their first duet CD, a collage of traditionally-flavored music called Windy Mountain (Niwot Records). For a show to make you smile, tap your foot, and remind you of life's good things, don't miss Pete and Joan!
