uncompromising retro-funk, urban blues & folk

New Yorker Toshi Reagon provides listeners with a musical feast that is both gutsy and expansive. Her vocal styles ranging from a blues moan to a gospel shout to an ethereal croon, Toshi Reagon performs witty, thought-provoking songs set to an energetic blend of retro funk, urban blues, soul, and folk that draws listeners in, embraces them and sets them off in foot-stomping delight. Born in Atlanta and raised in Washington, DC, Toshi inherited a rich musical legacy from her parents, who belonged to the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee's Freedom Singers before her mother, Bernice Johnson Reagon, went on to co-found world-renowned group, Sweet Honey In The Rock. Toshi herself expresses a political consciousness that is as ingrained in her music as the multiple genres she explores. Accompanied by her own guitar, Toshi performs songs from her recently released fourth album, Toshi, a dynamic, intense collection performed with fervor and intelligence.
