Freight favorite Laurie Lewis celebrates the long-awaited publication of Earth and Sky: the Laurie Lewis Songbook (Confluence Press), with an evening showcasing over two decades of her gorgeous, memorable songs, joined by Tom Rozum on mandolin and vocals and string bassist Todd Sickafoose. A Berkeley native, Laurie is one of the most diversely talented artists in traditional music. Since her early days as a founding member of the Good Ol' Persons and the Grant Street String Band, Laurie's songwriting, fiddling, and crystal clear singing have brought her national recognition, a Grammy, and multiple International Bluegrass Music Association Awards. Tom, a native New Englander now settled in Berkeley, began his collaboration with Laurie when he added his mandolin, mandola, guitar, and vocal talent to Laurie's Grant Street String Band. Their most recent recording collaborations include an album of songs of the solstice season, Winter's Grace (Signature Sounds), and this year's Audubon Canyon Ranch benefit CD, Birdsong. Todd, a young virtuoso of the acoustic bass, performs regularly with Laurie and Tom, as well as with Noe Venable and Will Bernard.
