Founding member of renowned super-group Solás, Karan Casey is one of the true glories of Irish music. Karan learned from a variety of musical sources, starting with church choir and local mentors in her own parish Ballyduff Lower. After moving to Dublin for university studies, she also trained in piano and voice at the Irish School of Music and The Royal Irish Academy while singing in jazz and folk groups. In 1993, after emigrating to New York, she joined with Seamus Egan, Winifred Horan, John Doyle, and John Williams to form Solás. The award-winning band recorded three albums while touring extensively in America, Europe and Japan. Embarking on a solo career, Karan recorded her debut album, Songlines in 1997, and recently released a follow up effort, The Winds Begin to Sing. Joining Karan is dynamic concertina player, Niall Vallely and guitarist Robbie Overson, two of the leading figures of the renaissance of Irish culture centered in Dublin during the 1990s |
