Portland-based Casey Neill blurs the boundaries between twangy americana, haunting Irish traditional tunes, and rambunctious folkpunk. His gritty vocals are influenced by the ornamental Irish seán-nos (old style) singing; his guitar playing travels from percussive attack to lilting fingerstyle and hot country picking. Zak Borden accompanies on fiddle and mandolin and Hanz Araki plays flutes, whistles, and shakuhatchi, for an evening that includes tunes from Casey's latest album, Skree (Appleseed). A strong advocate for the labor movement and a committed environmentalist, Casey is well-known for hosting the Freight's May Day concert celebrating the international labor movement as well as the outpouring of the spring season. |
