Birdsong, the latest CD from folk musician, Laurie Lewis, was
compiled, recorded and produced as a labor of love and with a mission in mind. All profits
from the sale of the collection of songs about birds will be donated to Audubon Canyon
Ranch, a Bay Area nonprofit organization dedicated to environmental preservation,
education and research.
A Bay Area native and Berkeley resident, Laurie has, through her many band and solo
outings, become a key figure in bluegrass, traditional country and folk music circles. Since
her early days as a founding member of the Good Old Persons and the Grant Street String
Band, Laurie's songwriting, fiddling, and crystal clear singing have brought her national
recognition and numerous awards. She was twice voted the International Bluegrass Music
Association's "Female Vocalist of the Year" and has won a Grammy for her participation in
True Life Blues: The songs of Bill Monroe.
"I love birds and have an affinity for songs about birds," Laurie says. "I see this CD as
a way to give something back to my muses as well as to honor the work of Audubon
Canyon Ranch, an organization I greatly admire." |
