Voices on the Verge began as a showcase for four up-and-coming New England-based artists -- Beth Amsel, Erin McKeown, Jess Klein, and Rose Polenzani -- performing and collaborating together in a live setting. Although the show was first intended to have a rotating roster, the original members, decided to stick together, playing several more tours, releasing a highly acclaimed live album, and having a lot of fun singing together, and not just next to each other. Beth Amsel, a leading lights of the Boston and Hartford folk scene has recently released her second album, Kindling, described by critic Tom Neff as "a musical ride through love and loss, want and desire, grief and change as seen from the drivers seat of a runaway car." Part folk diva, part beat poet, part jazzy funketeer, Erin McKeown's album, Distillation, is a startling debut, glowing with a spectrum of musical and emotional hues, and launching the charismatic Erin into the ranks of the impressively eclectic and infinitely talented. Jess Klein is known for the lucidity of her writing, and the soulful emotion and heart that her vocals express. She recently released her second album, Draw them Near. Rose Polenzani's music balances on the brink of '60s folk literacy and modern alternative rock. Rose recently released her first studio recording, an eponymously titled album that has received significant airplay on independent radio across the country. |
