In August, the Freight held a friendly competition for local songwriters, loosely based on the Survivor TV series. For our Survivor Night (catchy, no?) twenty up-and-coming performers, armed only with their musical talents, vied against each other for audience votes. Tonight's showcase features the four brave "survivors." Jayme Pohl sings heartfelt originals with a crystal clear and highly expressive voice. Her debut album, The Truth and Other Oddities, couples her striking voice with an eclectic compositional style and incredible fingerstyle guitar. Rebecca Perkins made her musical debut singing on stage with John McCutcheon at the age of 5. Her hauntingly sweet songs landed her a featured performer slot at the Freight's regular Open Mic. Daragh Adamson is a jazz musician whose dark and rich voice is like what you might hear if chocolate could make a sound. Sondra Woodruff's aggressive yet melodic style landed her a slot as our fourth "survivor." |
