award winning bluegrass guitar/bass duo

Jim Hurst and Missy Raines prove that one award-winning bassist plus one guitar genius add up to one amazing night of music. Voted Guitar Player of the Year in 2001 by the International Bluegrass Association, Kentucky-born Jim's musical development has been influenced as much by Chet Atkins as by Doc Watson; he is as comfortable playing complex fingerstyle leads as he is with red-hot flatpicking pyrotechnics. West Virginia native Missy has won widespread recognition for her dextrous, adventuresome playing, including four International Bluegrass Association Bass Player of the Year awards. Jim and Missy met while playing with Grammy nominee Claire Lynch's Front Porch String Band. After countless nights of backstage picking, they decided to step forward in a setting that offers each an opportunity to stretch out and experiment; for the past two years they've been nominated as the IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year. On their 2001 album, Two (Pinecastle), they take the powerful combination of their instruments and soulful voices on a musical journey that criss-crosses the boundaries of bluegrass, swing, jazz, and country blues.
