innovative traditionalist

Veterans of Dry Branch Fire Squad, High Country, and the California Cajun Orchestra join forces to play energetic traditional bluegrass inspired by musical heroes Bill Monroe, the Osborne Brothers, Cousin Emmy, Rose Maddox, and many others. The group gives the music a new twist by taking traditional non-bluegrass tunes from archival sources -- such as old blues 78s and Louisiana field recordings -- and rendering them in classic bluegrass style. The Bluegrass Intentions are Bill Evans on banjo, Alan Senauke on guitar, Eric Thompson on mandolin and guitar, Suzy Thompson on fiddle, and Larry Cohea on bass. With Bill, Alan, and Suzy forming the core vocal trio of the group, this quintet of virtuosos creates a fascinatingly innovative spin on music squarely rooted in tradition.
