An irrespressible innovator, Rhiannon combines song, story, character, movement, and the unexpected. The native South Dakotan followed her muse to New York City, where she pursued a career in acting, directing, and singing, and where her richly expansive and experimental vocal style was influenced by that city's vibrant jazz culture. Now residing in the Bay Area, she is the co-founder of three influential and popular groups -- the women's jazz quintet, Alive!, Voicestra (with Bobby McFerrin) and a cappella aces, SoVoSó. With Bowl of Sound, Rhiannon brings together all of the elements that make up her wide and wild artistic palette, weaving a rich, sonic tapestry of instrumental virtuosity, vocal improvisation, and performance art. Bowl Full of Sound's blend of master instrumentalists and vocal improvisors including Rhiannon's longtime colleague, producer and arranger Frank Martin on piano, Jami Sieber on electric cello and vocals, and Joey Blake and David Worm, veterans of Voicestra and SoVoSó, who bring an element of spontaneous combustion with their inspired singing and innovative use of mouth and body percussion. |
